I don’t know if you’ve ever had a wake up call? I’m not talking about a complementary hotel 6am ring-a-ding-ding. I mean a real awakening. Maybe a revelation or an epiphany? Just a significant moment, that alters the course of your life, or the way you think. I had a wake up call a few weeks ago. It was a moment that couldn’t have left me any more grateful to be alive.
I don’t believe these moments come without reason, or without a previous significant time of doubt or complacency. And to be completely honest, without a significant time of taking so many things for granted, or being too busy for the things that really matter.
It’s cliche, and may sound pretty corny, but life is precious. You can’t deny it. Not just the idea of “a life”, but your life, and every little detail in it. From saying I love you to the people you care about, to actually giving the time of day to the people you don’t. See that’s where we get it wrong. Those people you can’t stand, the ones that have hurt you, the ones you despise, you gotta love them too. Not because they won’t expect it, but because you’ll change their heart if you do. And if you don’t care about their heart, well you’re just the same as them.
I could go on here forever but I’ll cut to the chase. So clean your ears out because I’m about to wax it up with some philosophy (that’s the new hip way of saying wax philosophical).
There is nothing more extraordinary than knowing you have a second chance to do this life right. To know that you still get to follow your dreams, and on the way there you’ll be surrounded by people that love you. But don’t wait for a wake up call. Do it now. Live every decision and every day with purpose, and without regret.
