This is a shot I took back when we first started this photo adventure. The entire day had been gloomy and a little depressing for taking pictures. At the end of the day the clouds started to break back behind Fantasyland. They turned from a dull gray to a fluffy white. We hurried towards the back of the park in time for a Small World fantasy.
Rancho del Zocalo at Night
Sometimes we have to wait patiently for an area to clear to get a shot. After eating at Rancho del Zocalo one evening, I noticed that the outside dining area was practically empty. There was no waiting to be done and I took the shot without interruption. It really set the pace for a fun, relaxed night of photography. Now I just have to get the restaurant to go for my idea of character dining with Zorro.
The Observatron Takes Aim
This futuristic structure taking aim at Space Mountain is the Observatron. If you were wondering, I did have to look that up. It’s one of those things at Disneyland that you see and think, “That’s cool… What is it?” If you stare at it long enough, pondering its identity, it will put on a show for you, with sound effects and all. I was pretty excited to find this perspective of it on the Monorail platform. I’m told it gets pretty good reception.
Main Street Cinema
The Main Street Cinema is one of the most overlooked treasures of Disneyland. It’s a great spot to sneak off a crowded Main Street, but this vacant retreat is home to many of the classic cartoons that engendered the Disney story. I love spending time watching my way through the animated shorts that were there in the beginning. It’s a place to draw inspiration and a catalyst to pursue your dreams.
The World Famous Jungle Queue
Sometimes I wish I could just hang out in The World Famous Jungle Cruise queue all day. I picture sitting in a chair upstairs, sipping tea and spinning a globe which would be stopped arbitrarily by my finger, marking the destination for some future excursion. All of this while listening to the likes of Glen Miller, Duke Ellington and the ambient sounds of Adventureland.
The Storybook Land Canal Castle
The Storybook Land Canal Boats are a more recent favorite attraction of mine. We’ve had the pleasure of riding with a few very good guides, which makes the ride a lot more fun. It’s similar to when you get a really good skipper on the World Famous Jungle Cruise. Remember, it takes people to make the magic happen.
