It’s the day after Thanksgiving and for many of us that means it’s time to put up the tree and decorate for Christmas. Disneyland put theirs up two weeks ago. If you’ve ever seen it in person, you know what a beautiful monstrosity it is. I’m a little over six feet tall and I took this shot standing right next to the tree, looking almost straight up. From the end of Main Street, the tree stands in appearance even taller than the train station. If you are decorating today, I hope this serves as an encouragement and an inspiration.
Atop the Pirate’s Queue
Pirates of the Caribbean is a Disneyland staple and certainly one of my favorite rides. I love stopping on the bridge where I took this shot to take in the view, especially when it’s empty like this. I really appreciate all the work Disney puts into making the line a fun and interesting place to be. With the exception of encroachment on my personal bubble, I really enjoy waiting in lines at Disneyland. And why not when there are so many fun lines to wait in?
Fortune Red’s Treasure
Avast! If ye be after the keys to unlock yer future, Fortune Red of New Orleans Square will point ye in the right, proper direction. But be warned me hearty, Fortune Red be a buccaneer who don’t take kindly to a squiffy or a scallywag. It’ll cost ye two doubloons fer his consultation, savvy? After that, it be up to ye what ye do with the booty. So keep a weather eye, or it could be Davy Jone’s locker for ye!
The Matterhorn at Sunset
The Matterhorn is my first memory of Disneyland. Even before parking or setting foot on Disney pavement, looking for the mountain peak that contrasts so sharply the Anaheim skyline marked the beginning of a magical day for making memories. I find myself still searching for that peak when we get close to the park. And when my eyes catch sight of it, it feels strangely familiar to coming home. As with many things, one of the very best times to see it is when the sun’s concluding rays kiss it ever so gently goodnight.
Le Bat en Rouge
You may recognize this sign from New Orleans Square. It’s one of the shops where you can find Haunted Mansion or Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise. They also stock Vinylmations. It’s definitely one of the many stores that is as much fun to look at as it is to shop through.
With all of the creativity poured into smaller details like the scroll work of this sign, sometimes it’s the most fun just to walk through the parks looking for things you haven’t seen before. Chances are that even if you have been a million times you’ll find something. Or maybe you’ll see something in a new way. One of my favorite places to do this is New Orleans Square. I especially love the signs you can find along your way through here.
Tropical Imports
Sometimes you just really need a banana. If that’s the case, this would be a great place to get one. Not only because a fresh produce stand resides underneath this sign, but because this is Adventureland and bananas just feel more authentic here.
This shot was a result of one of those times when you’re just strolling through the park and something that you see stops you in your tracks. I love the way Adventureland looks this time of day, when the sun is still high enough that its light wanders through the leaves but can’t quite reach the ground.
