I’ve always had an affinity for photos that utilize a touch of color amidst an image that is predominantly black and white. Having listened to Christmas music from the 1920s most of the day, this is what happened when I sat down at the computer tonight. Was it the inevitable outcome of the two colliding? Apparently…
Oswald’s Gas and Garland
The glow on Oswald’s was amazing as we entered DCA during our last visit and it was one of those times when there wasn’t really time to stop and do much about it. I took this shot as we hustled further into Buena Vista Street. Hurried moments aren’t usually my preference but in this case it was a sweet fleeting moment to enjoy the ambiance and a welcome challenge to try and capture it quickly. What was so pressing? Coffee…
Snow on Route 66
Snow may not be the first thing you think of when you hear the words “Route 66”. Its coming is as uncertain as the promise of a traveler passing through town. But what good does it do to let uncertainty weigh us down? There are so many things we don’t have control of in life. What we do have control of is our outlook on things. Focus on what is good and true. Focus on the dreams that drive you. Focus on all that you have to be grateful for because gratefulness is always in season and it has the power to overcome whatever this life may throw our way.
The Merriest Little Town in Carburetor County
Where are you? You’re in the merriest little town in Carburetor Country. Cars Land has been decorated for Christmas and it’s truly something to behold. The cozy charm of Radiator Springs is magnified by the cheer and merriment of Christmas decor, automotive style. We didn’t get to spend nearly enough time there on our visit this weekend.
Hope for the Holidays
It used to be that the rush from one holiday to the next would frustrate me but it seems that there’s no avoiding it anymore. And honestly, I’m ready for Christmas. Changes in life are like a snowball rolling down a hill, gathering mass and momentum. There’s no use in trying to stop change. You’ll only end up cold and soggy.
The holidays always bring about this renewed sense of hopefulness and optimism. Not for things. Sales may abound but we all know deep down that stuff doesn’t matter. What matters are the people around us in this vast world. The hope we feel this time of year is that which eagerly anticipates that people will be better, that we will be better, that patience, kindness and compassion would increase. These are the things that have the power to make life brighter.
That’s the sort of thing I always think about when I’m at Disneyland during the holidays, especially in this spot. Walt was just a man but I think we can all agree that he made it a little easier to hope for the good in people and to dream the impossible. I’m ready for Christmas this year. I’m ready to make amazing memories with family and friends. I’m ready to see how I can be a blessing to others. I’m ready for change and I’m hopeful.
Dreaming of Christmas
Christmas day has come and gone and I hope that yours was blessed. Mine certainly was, spending it with family, thinking of friends and reflecting on the tremendous blessings this year has held. Christmas brings warm feelings and optimism with it that tend to wind down as we enter back into our normal routines. I don’t want to do that this year. Too many days go by that feel like being alive more than they do like truly living. I’m dreaming of Christmas that carries on in the coming days with meaning and thriving and warmth because life is wonderful. There is so much to be grateful for and there are so many blessings to share.
