I can’t say there are many times during the year that I consciously feel particularly proud to be an American. There’s the usual Independence Day festivities but outside of that I can’t say my love of country is stirred to any degree. It’s not for lack of patriotism either. It’s for lack of remembrance. This is certainly not the case during the flag retreat ceremony on Main Street, watching the color guard lower that star-spangled banner as the Disneyland Band plays, or prior when veterans are acknowledged for their heroic service, or afterward singing along to patriotic songs with the Dapper Dans. Observing and taking part in that ceremony is not just one of the great experiences of Disneyland but one of life’s. With finding ourselves smack in the middle of Memorial Day weekend, it seemed appropriate to share this image today, as a welcome reminder to remember our service men and women, their families, their sacrifices and commitment. Land of the free because of the brave. May God bless us and guide us.
Main Street Cinema
The Main Street Cinema is one of the most overlooked treasures of Disneyland. It’s a great spot to sneak off a crowded Main Street, but this vacant retreat is home to many of the classic cartoons that engendered the Disney story. I love spending time watching my way through the animated shorts that were there in the beginning. It’s a place to draw inspiration and a catalyst to pursue your dreams.
