“Jungle all the way” is the motto of the new Jingle Cruise Christmas overlay installment at Disneyland. It seems fitting, especially in light of the mixed feedback this recent addition has garnered. With the bar having been set so high by Disney with overlays, it can be a jungle out there for variations on classic attractions. Looking at the broad picture, I’m thrilled for the skippers to have the opportunity to change things up a little (an opportunity that I hope will extend beyond the holidays).
Let New Life Fall
September has always seemed to be a big month for me. It’s when I met Michaela. It’s been the month that we’ve made two of our big moves and started new jobs. It seems that this September will be no different and I’m ready. I’m ready for the next chapter.
The Smile That Comes Out Mad
I always crack up at the Enchanted Tiki Room pre-show. The Tikis mostly all have humorous introductions but I think my favorite is Pele’s. Her voice is so intense when she explains how she’s so sad that her smile comes out mad. Texting translation – >:(
Notice how the bromeliad flowers around Pele are all red, the color synonymous with anger… and fire… and lava…? I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the bright folks at Disney did that intentionally, which is awesome. Interesting anecdotal note – pineapples are a member of the bromeliad family and the only one to produce edible fruit. Dole whip sure sounds good on a warm night like tonight.
Why Did it Have to be Bats?
I love the Temple of the Forbidden Eye and it always bums me out to have go through it so quickly. The queue is every bit as good as the ride itself. When you make it to this point, the bat cave area, that’s when things really get interesting. The path gets crooked. The walls and ceiling close in on you a bit so that there’s a level of discomfort. That discomfort is always offset for me by hearing Jim Carey as Ace Ventura shouting “Guano!” Just me? Dangit…
Colonel Nedley, at Your Service for a Coin
Shrunken Ned is a great source of unexpected entertainment. Whatever your ailment may be, he’s got a prescription for you, but it doesn’t come cheap. Great minds can’t just hang around all day. It’ll cost you a coin or two.
The River Hunter
Crocs are abundant in the jungle rivers of Adventureland but there’s no need to worry. The Jungle Cruise skippers have got it handled.
